At home on every screen
One app, built separately where it matters. Each device gets the layout, controls, and gestures it's supposed to have.

Plays it straight
The goal is simple: play everything your device supports natively, and play it well.
The built-in player
Video plays in your device's built-in player, with the controls you already know and Picture in Picture on iPhone and iPad.
Direct play first
If your device can play a file as it is, it does. Your server only converts what your device genuinely can't play.
No surprises
Play Options shows the container, video, audio, and subtitles for what you picked, and whether each plays as-is, gets repackaged, or gets converted.
Subtitles stay subtitles
They're never burned into the picture.
Picks up where you left off
Resume points and seen status save to your server, so your other Jellyfin or Plex apps stay in step.
Free
No subscriptions, no upsell, no plus premium max whatever. Oh, and no ads.
Private
No accounts, analytics, telemetry, or crash reporter. Your data stays on your device and goes only to your server.
Open source
MIT licensed. Read it, fork it, or send a pull request.
What you'll need
A Jellyfin or Plex server of your own, or access to one. Freya Player doesn't come with any movies or shows; it plays the ones you already have.
- Jellyfin
- Enter your server's address, username, and password. Everything stays between the app and your server.
- Plex
- Sign in with a code at plex.tv/link. Sign-in and server discovery go through plex.tv.
Give it a try
On a Mac, you can also use Homebrew, or grab a build from GitHub.
